New Troupe Charter Grant

With a goal of bringing honor and recognition to theatre students in financially challenged communities, the International Thespian Society has created the New Troupe Charter Grants program. The International Thespian Society is an honor society whose annual high school festival is recognized by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. A troupe is made up of the students who have earned induction into the Society through quality work in the theatre arts.

Membership in an honor society instills students with pride and confidence. It confirms the value of their work and inspires them to continue their efforts. Having an international honor society at a school adds to its stature, leading to increased awareness and support for its theatre program.

The New Troupe Charter Grants program will award grants to qualifying schools to fund the charter of an International Thespian Society troupe and induction for up to ten students.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • To be eligible to apply the school must be designated as a school-wide, Title 1 school that produces a minimum of one (1) play per year for each of the previous two school years and have had no prior affiliation with the International Thespian Society (ITS).
  • Schools may apply for a grant to charter a high school (9-12) or middle school (6-8) troupe.
  • Approved applications will enable the school to charter the troupe and induct up to ten (10) students, at that time, at no cost to the school.

Once the troupe has been chartered, it will function with all the rights, opportunities, and obligations of all other Thespian or Junior Thespian troupes. Applicants for new troupe charter grants will be notified within 30 days of the result of their application. Schools approved for a grant will be provided with the necessary materials and access to facilitate chartering their troupe.

Currently there will be grants awarded for eligible high school troupes, and for eligible middle school troupes on a first come, first served basis. Any additional applications may be considered on a waitlist for future grant opportunities.
